#3 Nothing's Gonna Change My World

So today I was watching one of my favorite movies, Across the Universe. I've never realized it before but it is a very depressing movie! I remember watching the part when Jude comes back to England and he finds his ex-girlfriend pregnant. She asks Jude for the name of the reason that he stopped writing her and he told her with saddness in his eyes.... "her name was Lucy...and it was good for a while".
By that time, Jude never expects to see his Lucy again. Then there is a scene where Max(Lucy's brother) is in a bar in America and Jude is in a pub in Liverpool, drinking away their sarrows, and Max begins to sing the song "Hey Jude". There is a line in it that says: "you were made to go out and get her", so by that time Jude has made up his mind to go out and get her! So he travels back to America and Max is waiting to meet him there, and they drive off in Max' taxi cab. In the next scene, all of the main characters are performing a concert on the rooftop of the building (symbolizing the Beatles rooftop concert). Eventually, the boys in blue come and end it.... but Jude casually walks off (staying on the rooftop) so that he is not caught.
When everyone was gone, he stepped up to the microphone and begins to sing "All You Need is Love". "There's nothing you can do that can't be done... Nothing you can sing that can't be sung... Nothing you can do but you can learn how to play the game...It's easy!" Baffled, the crowed of people bagan to wander who's singing. All this time, Lucy's trying to get past the police, who are now allowing the concert to take place because of the convincing back up singing of Sadie and Prudence. Lucy has no way of getting to her love....
She had to make herself known to him! So she went up to the roof of the adjacent building. Jude, seeing Lucy, can't help but smile with tears in his eyes...
I was thinking, what if Jude never went back to America to find Lucy and they never saw each other again? Would it still be 'meant to be' if it never happened? Personally, I don't believe that there are people 'meant for eachother'. I guess it's similar to the predestination versus freewill debate.... it happens at the same time. I believe that you make someone the right person and you make it work... I also think that the 'if it's meant to be, it will happen' thing is a bunch of rotten bologna! My pastor mentioned something about this in one of his sermons...I believe he said something like, "If you're with the wrong person, can't you make them the right person?" Peace and Love.

  2. "I don't believe that there are people 'meant for eachother'." - I disagree. You're obviously not a romantic.

  4. I'm sorta indifferent on this one... I don't know if I agree with the "meant for each other" concept now... You make me question my thinking, interesting.
